Essex PS Parent Council Meeting – Agenda October 3 2017
Sharpen your plastic fangs, iron your capes, and hold onto your candy because the Hawthorne and Essex Monster Mixer is coming back on Friday, October 27. Young and young at heart will celebrate our amazing community with food, games, prizes, contests, and of course your best Halloween costume yet again this year from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the school gym. More details and a call for volunteers will follow soon. Save the Date: Oct. 27 Monster Mixer. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
The students at Essex and Hawthorne will be participating in the Aussie X Sports program.
Aussie X, an Australian Sports program will be working with students Tuesday, September 26 – Thursday, September 28.
Students will experience:
Movement – physical activity that makes you feel good irrespective of ability;
Mateship – loyalty, equality and friendship; and,
Mindfulness – becoming aware of themselves, others and the world around you.
This program is part of the Team Building initiative at the school.
Together, students will learn one of three fun sports: Aussie Footy, Cricket or Netball.
On Thursday, September 28th, during Curriculum Night, Aussie X will be set-up in the field to demonstrate what students have learned.
The program is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. You are invited to come and ‘Have a Go’ with your child!
*Come ready to get energized with your child.
Reminder to wear appropriate attire and footwear.

Terry Fox letter 2017
The Essex and Hawthorne Parent Council is thrilled to announce the return of the fundraiser called Fresh From the Farm. Fresh From the Farm offers farm fresh Ontario grown produce for a great price, while donating 40% of proceeds back to Essex school! Parents loved the quality of the produce last year and the fundraiser is back by popular demand.
Families can order fall harvest produce fresh from Ontario farms via order forms distributed & collected by teachers this week. Please look out for forms in your children’s backpacks. The forms are simple and user friendly.
Families are responsible for picking up their own produce on harvest day. Please note that we cannot keep orders over night so please make pick up arrangements.
Order DEADLINE is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5th, 2017

Harvest pick up day will take place in the schoolyard, under the overhang, in mid November (date TBD) between 3 -7 pm.
Fresh from the Farm is also a food drive supporting The Stop Community Food Centre! Not only can your order raise funds for your child’s school and support local farmers, but buying a bundle (or more) for only $12 each, you can also place an order for additional bundles on the same form and list the beneficiary as ‘The Stop’ or ‘Donate’.
For over 30 years, The Stop Community Food Centre has been at the forefront of innovative programs that provide access to healthy food, skill building, health promotion and addressing the underlying issues that lead to poverty and hunger.
We will be looking for volunteers to help manage and input orders, separate and bag orders and distribute orders on harvest day. Please contact Bridget at bridgetasinclair@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering your time or have any questions or concerns.

Volunteers are needed to help distribute pizza on Pizza Day Fridays, starting at 11:15 a.m. for one hour. If you are available for any pizza day we would love to have you come out and help!
