Become a Spring Fling Sponsor

The Spring Fling is our extremely well-attended annual fundraiser, and local businesses are invited to sponsor the event in exchange for major exposure. Our school families love to support each other’s small businesses, and this is an opportunity to get your name out there!
We are offering Spring Fling Sponsorship spots to Essex/Hawthorne parents and families and friends FIRST before offering them to the larger community. We have a limited number of sponsorships available for $250 and $500 ($500 limited to 3 and includes signage outside the bouncy castle/major attraction) ** Sponsorships are tax deductible and you will be provided with a tax receipt **
Does your business want the chance to connect with over 500 local families, as well as some social media exposure? Please get in touch with Allison Venditti – allison.venditti@gmail.com by April 17, for full details and to reserve your spot.

Welcome Elin Marley from Seedling Stories

A message from Elin Marley from Seedling Stories, who will be teaching cooking classes in the school March 21-29.
Hi!

My name is Elin Marley, and I work as a School Garden Educator. Since 2010, I have been running my school garden programme called Seedling Stories at a number of Toronto elementary schools. I also work at the High Park Children’s Garden and Teaching Kitchen, where I have had many opportunities to cook and to garden with campers, school groups, and at special events over the past 9 years.

During the garden season, I work outside with students, planting, maintaining and harvesting in the school gardens, and exploring the plants and creatures that live out there. In the winter, my lessons include cooking and baking with kids, using a wide range of local ingredients. In addition to cooking healthy foods, students learn about different plant parts we eat, practice procedural writing with recipes, apply math skills such as measuring volume while following recipes, and learn about composting the fruit and vegetable scraps we might have left over.

I look forward to cooking, baking and exploring local ingredients with Essex classes this spring!

You can follow my garden and cooking adventures on Twitter and Instagram @seedlingstories

Dogs on School Property

School Safety – Dogs on School Property

From time to time, it is helpful to review school policies to ensure that the safety of all students and staff at Essex Jr. & Sr. P.S. & Hawthorne II Bilingual Alternative Jr. P.S. is a top priority.  Our staff will continue to demonstrate that priority by ensuring that proper procedures are in place to ensure that our school is safe.  There are so many factors to consider in maintaining a nurturing learning environment including the health and safety of students and staff.  As such, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of our school policy that dogs are not permitted on school property and emphasize our ongoing expectation that parents shall not bring their dogs on school property when dropping off or picking up their children or while school is in session.

Our schoolyard provides a safe clean area for students to learn and play.  Parents are asked to comply with all signs posted when on or around school property during and after school hours.

We are asking for everyone’s co-operation in following this policy so that working together we can help keep our students, staff and parents safe while at school.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.
