Dear Parents,
Our 15th annual Terry Fox event is happening on Friday October 26.
We will begin at 1 pm with a kick off assembly in the Gym. Then, kindergarten to Grade 2 students will walk run around the school while Grade 3 to 8 students will walk run around Christie Pits.
Our school is proud to be participating in the Terry Fox School Run. Please join our school community and support this worthy cause, click:

to be taken to our school’s fundraising page.
Please feel free to share this link with friends and family to encourage online donations.
The Terry Fox Foundation has a great reputation with 82 cents of every dollar going directly to cancer research. You will receive your income tax receipt immediately.
If you prefer to send in cash or cheque donations, please have your child return donations with pledge forms to his/her teacher. Donations over $20 will receive a receipt in the mail.
Thank you for joining us in the fight against cancer.
Should you wish to volunteer to help supervise your child’s class during the Terry Fox school run, please send Ana a message at ana.neves@tdsb.on.ca.
We also require 2 parents to help cut up oranges for snack that morning. If you would like to help do this, please send Ana a message asap.
Thanks so much!
Warm regards,
Ana Neves
The municipal election will be taking place on Monday, October 22. Elections Canada will be using the west side of the East Gym for the entire day.
As a result, the lunch program will take place ONLY on the east side of the East Gym (stage side).
The lunch program will be staggered between Essex & Hawthorne due to space limitation.
Hawthorne students will have lunch from 11:35 – 12:00 so they will enter the gym on the east side.
They will have lunch recess from 12:05 – 12:35.
Essex students will have lunch recess first from 11:35 – 12:00p.
Students are to bring their lunch and baskets down to the gym door to have attendance done by the LRS staff.
Essex students will have lunch from 12:05 – 12:35
Due to the limited LRS (Lunch Room Supervisors) staff on yard supervision and the safety of our students, the Grade 2-3 & Junior Playscapes will be closed during the lunch recess for this day.
Thank you!

Donations: Do you know someone who might like to display their company or product to our community? Would you like to give back to our school by donating an item to the event? This is an incredible opportunity to promote your business to the Essex Community and support our fundraising efforts. We will be promoting them on our blog and promoting it on social media! If you would like to donate please get in touch with Allison Venditti – Allison.venditti@gmail.com to organize a donation.
Virtual Volunteers: Interested in helping out at the school but just don’t have a lot of time? Want to help out at one of our biggest fundraisers of the year without having to commit to lots of hours? Have 10 minutes to ask for a donation at a local business? Know a family or friend who would like to donate? GREAT! We have a donation request letter – so all you need to do is just hand them them the letter!!

Dear Essex families
As many of you are aware, Essex and Hawthorne schools sponsored a Syrian refugee family two years ago. The Khouja-Breim family have recently welcomed a new addition to their family – a baby girl, Areen.
A group of Hawthorne and Essex families continue to support the Khouja-Breim family. The father continues to struggle to find sufficient work to support his family.
We are asking families to contribute a little something to help the family with the new baby and to feed everyone.
We are collecting diapers (size 1 and up), baby wipes, and Gift cards to Freshco, Rexall, and Shoppers Drug Mart.
Families can also make a small donation through GoFundMe.
The family also needs a baby bath if anyone has one to donate.
Thank you for all your help,
The Sponsorship Team.
