Reminder: Nut Products at School

To all parents and caregivers, as a reminder, please do not send any items to school which contain nuts of any kind, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil or other nut products.

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergy to certain foods and insects. This extreme sensitivity to foods or other environmental factors is a concern to all parents and to our school.  Frequently, this problem appears as an allergy to peanut butter, peanut oil or other types of nuts, as well as products that contain these ingredients.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the school.

Book Club for Essex Grown-ups

We had a rich discussion at the last meeting of the Book Club for Essex Grown-ups.   We are continuing to read How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity and the Hidden Power of Character by Paul Tough.  The next meeting will be Tuesday May 10 at 6 pm, just before the Parent Council meeting at 6:30.

Aim to finish the book (focus on last three chapters). Please note this is a Read What You Can Book Club, so come regardless of what you have managed to read!

There will be at least one copy of the book at the school library.

If you have any questions, please contact Milisa Burns at Milisa.burns@gmail.com, of the Essex Health and Well Being Committee.

Spring Fling Volunteers

Essex and Hawthorne schools will be holding our annual Spring Fling on Friday, June 3rd from 3:30pm-7:30pm.  Last year, thanks to the help of many of you, it was a great triumph. The monies raised helped pay for our one-of-a-kind kindergarten play yard that sets the bar for an outdoor space that encourages play, curiosity and learning in a natural environment.  We were also able to install a “Buddy Bench” in the baseball field and plan to install further seating across the school yard this spring.

In order to make the 2016 Spring Fling another roaring success, we are putting out a call for volunteers.  If you are planning on attending Spring Fling, why not spend an hour or two helping out?

We need over 100 volunteers to help with with set-up and clean-up, bouncy castles, food stations, ticket sales and face painting, to name just a few opportunities.

Please email us at springflingeh@gmail.com to offer your services.  Give us your name and preferred hour or hours of service, and we will get back to you with a job.

  • Set-up (2:30-3:30)
  • 3:30-4:30
  • 4:30-5:30

  • Clean-up (7:30-8:30)

Thank you in advance to our wonderful Essex-Hawthorne community, we know we can rely on you to make this year’s Spring Fling fantastic!
