Overhang Roof Maintenance

Parents and Guardians,

As you might expect, repairs and maintenance are a necessary part of the operation of any school. That is especially so in older schools such as ours. One project that is due to begin soon is the removal of paint from under the overhang roof on the north side of the school. This paint was found to contain lead. The TDSB has developed a detailed plan in consultation with Toronto Public Health to safely and permanently remove the paint once the school year has ended for students and staff. That process will take several weeks to complete.

In the meantime, our staff have been diligently sweeping the area several times a day to remove any chips that might fall. This weekend, crews will be working to install a temporary enclosure under the roof that will catch any falling paint chips. As a result, there will not be any access to the overhang area this weekend. Once the enclosure is installed, the school will once again be able to use the area under the overhang until the full removal begins at the end of June. Rest assured that every precaution is being taken to ensure that the area remains safe, and is accessible once again on Tuesday morning. Throughout the duration of this project, all work will be completed in accordance with strict government regulations established under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. If you require any further information, please feel free to contact me.

Yours truly,

Jim
