Hot Lunch Program

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Our Snack and Lunch programs will be starting once again September 15th and September 22nd, 2014 respectively, and running until June 19th, 2015.

The program will be safe, welcoming, and reflective of the values and tastes of our community. It will follow Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. Included is a sample menu for your information.

Healthy food is essential for students’ physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. Well-nourished students are able to concentrate better, retain and apply the things they learn more effectively and are more likely to show positive social behaviours. Children use up energy quickly and require frequent nourishment. The Toronto District School Board recognizes the direct relationship between healthy nutrition and students’ academic achievement and fully supports nutrition programs for all students

We were fortunate to receive some government funding to support the program; however, it only covers a small portion (25%) of the cost of food and supplies. Parental contributions and school fundraising are an important part of sustaining the programs and criteria to receive these grants. Therefore, we will be asking for parental contributions on a regular basis to make the program successful and benefit students.

• Suggested Snack contribution breakdown for the year (Available to Essex only):
  • 1st Term (September 15th to December 19th, 14 weeks): $20
  • 2nd Term (January 5th to April 3rd, 12 weeks): $15
  • 3rd Term (April 6th to June 19th, 11 weeks): $15
  • For the entire year: $40
• Lunch contribution breakdown for the year (Available to both Essex and Hawthorne):
  • 1st Term (September 22nd to December 19th, 13 weeks): $180
  • 2nd Term (January 5th to April 3rd, 12 weeks): $170
  • 3rd Term (April 6th to June 19th, 11 weeks): $160

*There will be an option to purchase the lunch program on a monthly basis that cost will be ~60$/month.

Please see the attached form for registration (which includes the sample menu and tax receipt information) and return your payment to the school no later than September 15th, 2014.
