Streetproofing

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On Friday evening, police issued a safety alert about an incident that was reported to have happened in our community. On the afternoon of June 3, police were contacted about a 12-year old boy who was approached by a male driving a van in the area of Dupont and Ossington. The boy quickly rode his bike home and told his parents what had happened.

While this incident did not involve our school in any direct way, we all take an active interest in neighbourhood safety so we are sharing this report with you. Anyone who might have information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400, through Crime Stoppers at 416-222 TIPS (8477), or online at www.222tips.com. Police are looking for a male described as white, approximately 60 years old, heavy build, balding with salt-and-pepper hair and white facial hair. At the time, he was wearing a dark-coloured tank top and dark-coloured pants and was seen driving a brown- or grey-coloured older model Ford Windstar-type van.

We are fortunate to have a number of safety initiatives, programs, and policies that contribute to a safe and caring school. However, most incidents happen away from school and outside of school hours. I want to emphasize again to all our students, staff, and parents the need to be aware and alert at all times.

Our staff regularly speak to students about how to stay safe. I know that you too will want to help ensure our community is as safe as possible. On the reverse of this letter, please find streetproofing tips that you may find helpful when discussing safety with your child.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Sincerely,

Jim Stathopoulos          Natalie Patterson
Principal                          Vice Principal
