TranslateWe are very pleased and excited to announce that the Syrian family that the Essex-Hawthorne community sponsored has arrived in Toronto. They arrived on Monday June 20th, which was also World Refugee Day. With over 65 million refugees currently in the world (more than any other time in modern history) it is clear that our local community efforts to welcome and assist refugees are needed now more than ever.
The Breim/Khouja’s four children and their parents arrived tired but in good spirits. A small group of us and some of our kids met them at the airport and then brought them back to the temporary housing that we had arranged. A potluck dinner was held on Monday evening to welcome them.
We are now focusing on settling them in and support them in their life in Toronto. We have secured permanent housing for the family as of July 1, but they will need household furnishings and goods.
